Welcome to BrickUltra’s review of the LEGO Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine Set! In this review, I will be taking a look at the fourth LEGO Cuusoo creation in the 21103 Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine. This model is based of Cuusoo user “m.togami” design.
The Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine comes with 401 pieces and retails for $34.99. Does this final design beat the original Cuusoo design! Let’s find out!
Box and Contents
The box is fairly high quality compared to other LEGO sets. This box has two flaps at the front that lets users open the box upward. The set comes with two Minifigures in Marty McFly and Doc Brown. The Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine includes 401 pieces and is recommended for ages 10+. The back of the box reveals the three variation of LEGO Deloreans you can build. Inside the box one finds five bags. The box is of course fairly small, I think the 2009 box was bigger even though the set is smaller. Inside the box one finds two numbered bags, several long bricks for the base of the Delorean and one thick instruction booklet. The instruction booklet is special because it’s made of a different material compared to other flimsy LEGO instruction booklets. This special booklet includes facts about the movie and is made of a material similar to a graphic novel or comic book like The Walking Dead.
The Minifigures included are Marty McFly and Doc Brown. It’s great to finally have Michael J Fox in LEGO form. As we can see LEGO did a fantastic job on designing the Minifigures for this set.
The set takes roughly 15-30 minutes to complete and is overall a pretty neat build. LEGO first makes you create the Back to the Future 1 Delorean and then after you’ve completed that they give you the option to either create the Back to the Future 2 or Back to the Future 3 Delorean. I’m happy though LEGO lets you have a chance to create all three Deloreans instead of making you buy three different sets.
The Completed Model
The complete model is pretty good, there are definitely some cons with the set in that it’s flimsy at some parts of the vehicle. Switching between versions of the Delorean only take like 2-3 minutes to do. LEGO spent a lot of time designing this set and overall we should be grateful that LEGO and Universal let this set come into existence.
If your interested in watching seeing the set in person, please view the video we made highlighting it’s features. Enjoy!
This set I would recommend for any fan of Back to the Future or LEGO. This set definitely is awesome having watched the movies myself and being a huge fan of them and it’s great to see Michael J Fox in LEGO form. Another good benefit with the set is when you buy the LEGO Back to the Future set some of the money goes to the Michael J Fox Foundation and helps them in their search for a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
For investors the LEGO Back to the Future Delorean Time Machine Set is a no brainer for the secondary market, this set is going to be very very valuable as of now but also when they retire this set. Given Back to the Future’s popularity this is probably going to be as big as the LEGO Minecraft set if you ever plan on selling it. So in the end this is a must buy, not only for Back to the Future fans but for everyone that loves LEGO!
